What is the Decathlon? The Academic Junior High Decathlon is a competition for students in grades 6-8. There are ten events. Two are collaborative team efforts – a logic quiz with 20 rigorous thinking problems, and a super quiz with 50 multiple choice questions on five broad academic themes. The remaining eight events test individual knowledge of the Roman Catholic doctrine, English, Literature, Science, Mathematics, Current Events, Social Studies, and Fine Arts (Art and Music). Awards are given for individual and team performance, and the winning school team from each geographic diocese competes in a state championship the first Saturday of May each year.
How has OLP placed in Decathlon in the past? OLP is competing against over 100 Catholic junior high schools, ranked amongst those with the best academics in Los Angeles. In 2010 OLP came in 13th place and in 2011 OLP came in as 11th place winners. As our students and teachers work hard to prepare the children for this year’s competition, all of your prayers and support are very welcome.
How do students join decathlon at OLP? Students join decathlon by making a commitment to complete a twenty problem Logic exam and writing an essay on a person in History, Art, Literature, Science, or politics. They also sign a contract that states they must maintain an 85% or higher in all subjects. To learn more about how your child can join Decathlon, contact the OLP Office (818)894-4059.
At Our Lady of Peace School, we believe that EVERY child has talent.
It is our commitment to develop every child’s singing voice. We strive to enrich and educate the children through different musical styles of choral music. We instill the values of sharing God’s gift of music within the Catholic liturgy inside and outside our parish community. We hope to develop these talents through full participation in practices and experiences in order to deepen a music appreciation that can be shared as a school, in each child’s life, and for the future.

To be a part of the yearbook committee, students must be in 6th, 7th or 8th grade and have an average 75% or higher in all subjects. The Yearbook Committee meets once a week in 2nd grade.
Using technology, yearbook members take digital photographs of students, teachers, parents, activities, and school events. Photographs are then uploaded onto a web-based yearbook site, in which students create themed pages, designing backgrounds and borders, manipulating photographs, and using clip art. In the process, students create a unique personalized Our Lady of Peace yearbook, filled with memories for all to enjoy in the years to come.
